Questions and answers about careers at Velvet Mind

We have collected the most common questions here. If you would like to know more, write to us directly.

Why should I join you rather than a large consultancy?

Because you won’t find a culture like ours again in a hurry. If you want to take on responsibility early – with fair pay – we are more flexible and agile than large corporations. If you have an idea, you knock on the boss’s door. If it moves us forward, we put it into practice.

How does the application process work?

You get in touch, we usually get back to you within one or two working days and have a call via MS Teams. If it’s a good fit on both sides, we invite you to Hamburg – we cover travel, hotel and meals. After that, you quickly receive a contract. More about the application process

How does my onboarding work?

You receive most of the information before your first working day. Together with your work equipment, you are ready to start straight away. In a personal meeting, we explain everything important and answer your questions.

Where do I get my work equipment from?

Before your first working day, you receive a complete set of equipment:

  • a new laptop of your choice
  • a current iPhone with a contract, also for private use
  • two monitors for your home office
  • a USB-C docking station
  • a wireless mouse and keyboard (Logitech MX Master and MX Keys)
How do I start my first project?

Even before you start, we look at which client or project you can be assigned to and introduce you in advance. To do this, we create a profile with you so that you can get going as quickly as possible.

Do I have to work in the office or from home?

Remote-first, if you want. You can work from home or come into the office to exchange ideas with colleagues. Depending on the project, clients occasionally want to see you on site – since Covid, this has become much less frequent.

How many days’ holiday do I get?

30 days’ holiday, which you can schedule freely. We don’t have rules such as ‘no more than two weeks in a row’.

How does the company car work?

You get the company car after your probationary period. You can lease a car of any make – individually configured or available immediately. The framework: a lease of two to three years with 30,000 km per year, including maintenance and wear and tear. Car subscriptions are possible in individual cases. You receive a personal car budget that covers the lease payments and all other costs – including fuel.

Do I have to pay tax on the benefit in kind?

Yes, this applies to all company cars in Germany – including the boss’s. 1% of the gross list price (less for hybrid and electric cars) is added to your salary. Examples, which vary depending on your tax class:

  • Mercedes E-Class, petrol, list price €95,000: approximately €475 less net pay
  • Mercedes GLC, hybrid, list price €95,000: approximately €240 less net pay
  • VW ID.3 GTX, electric, list price €60,000: approximately €75 less net pay
Are there alternatives to the company car?

Yes, a first-class BahnCard 100. The benefit in kind is somewhat more complicated here – with the right strategy, it can be free of charge for you. We are happy to explain it when we speak.
